Garden on the Wall® proudly transformed the grand lobby of Essentia Health at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN, into a breathtaking biophilic centerpiece. This large-scale, 33-foot-high installation features a curated blend of forest, ferns, and eucalyptus over a moss canvas, seamlessly integrated beneath striking wooden strakes and a soaring ceiling. Inspired by Duluth’s natural beauty, including the hillsides and the Apostle Islands archipelago, the design pays tribute to the region while offering a calming and restorative ‘green’ welcome for patients, visitors, and staff.

This award-winning installation—honored with a 2023 IIDA Healthcare Design Award for Best of Competition—embodies the healing power of nature. Through the use of sustainable materials and native plant designs, the project sets a new standard for healthcare environments, creating a serene and uplifting atmosphere that fosters well-being and connection to the natural world.
